PARKSIDERS LOOK TO PUT PRESSURE ON TOP TWO

Hunslet have a chance to put pressure on Oldham and Keighley and create a gap between themselves in 3rd place and the chasing pack when they play 4th placed Rochdale this weekend at the South Leeds Stadium (Sunday June 23rd 3pm).

The Parksiders are two points clear of Rochdale after eleven games each, but Coach Dean Muir knows his side must improve as the big games keep coming.

“I’m really happy with the group dynamic, which is very good, but we must get tidier how we turn the ball over. There are too many switch off’s when defending the 1st, 2nd and 3rd plays.”

Hunslet beat a much-improved Midlands side last week and Muir felt his side were on top at 0-0. “We were starting to get on top then the sin-bin changed the dynamic.”

Two quick tries looked like Midlands would have a 0-10 lead at the break, but Hunslet hit back with two quick tries of their own.

A factor in that was a man contributing brilliantly this season Cam Berry. “Cam’s been really good off the bench, his distribution is fast, passing is crisp and he works hard and tackles well. He really sparks us.”

Along with Ross Whitmore Hunslet have 2 men in form at the Hooker position.

Looking at Rochdale Muir said “Gary Thornton has recruited well; they are probably the best attacking side in the competition. They are fast, good at kicking and have threats everywhere, but it’s up to us to stop making unforced errors and concentrate on our play.”

With a good weather forecast and no big Euro games on Hunslet will be hoping for a good crowd as we start to get towards the business end of the season.

With no new injuries Hunslet take Joe Law and Isaac Shaw on Dual Registration again from Wakefield Trinity.
